The second annual “Happening Gourmand” takes place in 8 top restaurants in Old Montreal. At a special fixed price, gourmet food-lovers can enjoy a 3-course menu and savour what each location had to offer. I might just try them all….twice….

Why is it that only the most expensive two (Verses and AIX) seem to be worth investigating? I mean, who would pay $17 for pasta, even with an appetizer and dessert included? Also, why does this only happen in the Old Port when there are plenty of happening restos across town that could afford to reduce their rates for a few nights to let the starving artists check out their wares?
I would, considering that you should pay at least 4$ for a cheap appetizer and maybe 3$ for a cheap dessert.I think you can pay 10$ for a plate of pasta…
Never been to Galiano’s but suite 701 and Narcisse are very nice…
It’s not just pasta – even in the $17 bracket there’s chicken and beef on the menu.
Personally it sounds like a pretty great deal.
$17 for a high class meal sounds pretty savvy if you eat chicken, beef or fish. One of the huge problems with dining out can be tabulating the price and accidentally spending a bit to much when you consider all the little things you want to try.
I’m definitely checking this out. Shelling out 50 dollars for two meals and a tip doesn’t seem too out there if the restaurant in question is really world class.
I just find including a pasta resto in the line-up kind of absurd, since I wouldn’t consider that to be adventurous eating and normally try to avoid Italian joints when I go out. The same goes for steaks, as much as I enjoy a good steak. For a $17 meal, I would rather have something I wouldn’t normally be able to afford, or that I wouldn’t normally get to try–something more edgy than seafood linguine–even if it meant forgoing an appetizer and/or dessert.
So be adventurous and try @ narcisse
snails provencal style , then Lyonnaise style veal liver and then dessert…
It’s a question of taste i think :P
