The Retail Show

The Retail Show

Working in Retail now is the equivalent of working at McDonalds it seems these days.  Having worked in Retail in the past I’m so excited for the launch of The Retail Show.

The Retail Show is a new animated series created by Antoine Tavaglione of Motion Box Productions.   The concept stems from Antoine’s experiences working at a high-end retail store for many years (The lead character Otto is Antoine’s alter-ego). With its clean lines and vivid colours, Retail opts for quick-witted humour, derived from real-life situations, ridiculing consumerist values, spoofing celebrities and pop culture while, in the process, shaping edgy characters with undeniable appeal.

The series follows four cynical twenty something retail clerks (Otto, Penny, Mannan and Sonny) who struggle to cross the quarter-life, existential juncture unscathed, in this biting satire about the hollow swankiness of the retail way of life.  The all work at Ins, a high-end men’s garment store in the downtown core of the posh, expansive Krome metropolis. Retail ridicules consumerist values, spoofs celebrities and pop culture, and pokes fun at the fashion world’s most unlikely victims, namely the impeccably dressed youngsters who can’t afford to gas up their engines.

watched the 3 first episodes…Not convinced yet. There is like a “pause” in between every characters sentence…witch is a bit annoying

But i love the concept ! Can’t wait for more!

yah, it’s kinda slow, and I’m not much into cartoons.

But eh, never know if it can catch up and be popular.

I think it was great, really cool designs, a little slow at times but it seems to take a different beat from what we are used 2, like family guy.
    it has potential most def!

yeah, maybe sometimes it’s a bit slower than what we’re used to, but hey, it’s original and funny!

i actually like the uneven pace, it reminds me of “family guy”.

we don’t have enough if these cartoons here in quebec.
keep up the good work mr tavaglione!

@noa have you seen family guy ????? This is a nice start but it’s nothing close to family guy, let’s not over react…

  11. Noa March 5, 2009 2:38 pm

Jean-Aymeri, I said that “it reminds me of” and not “it is on the same level as” Family Guy. I’m thinking about the fast pace/slow pace kind of montage, as opposed to the many other cartoons who tend to have the same rhythm from start to end, as well as the pretty absurd sense of humor.

And if it seems to you that I’m “over-reacting”, oh well… I am working myself in the 2D/3D industry and I am quite enthusiastic to finally see a real cartoon from Montreal trying to make it big, especially when that guy did everything alone… trust me, and I know what I’m talking about, this must have been very hard.

So thumbs up for what you’ve done so far!

  14. Jean-Aymeri March 5, 2009 5:06 pm

    Noa :)

It’s good to take a stand for your friend I respect that !

Being very familiar myself with 3D I appreciate the hard work and I think the concept is great…

For my taste I do think that the break, between each characters sentences doesnt add anything…And woul love a more normal dialogue “flow” between the characters…

Just trying to be objective here an to help. And to be honest i never noticed that “uneven pace” in family guy…so that is why i made that comment…

I really look forward to more. Retail is off to a good start !

Hey Antoine – I must admit the network here in South Africa doesn’t allow me to watch as much as I would like (too damn slow!) but I’ve seen the first 2 Ep and I like it bud!

I’m crazy about the designs and the look of the show. The animation, in my view, could flow a little more but it’s always too easy to judge:)

Keep it up dude! I’ll keep trying to watch more ;-)

Hope to see you here some day.
    Peace!

Dans un monde où tout va vite, voilà enfin quelque chose de différent! Pendant que les images défilent à leur rythme, on a le temps d’admirer les couleurs et d’assimiler les paroles.
    Bravo! Continue comme ça!

Wow that was a great keep up
the good work on the 2nd part

Well you’ve certainly established a unique style of drawing and writing. I enjoyed Otto’s quirks. He’s a defined character that could take on any type of situation.
I like his determination and naivety and I think he will always maintain that regardless of what he thinks he’s achieving.
Good job and looking forward to seeing more !
