So it’s been a really intense week with all the submissions we got and let’s just say the decision was not easy… Imagine Paula, Randy, Simon and Pete Tong sitting in a room with Sushi, Vodka, Guru & Maynards listening to Montreal’s finest all the while trying to remember we were there to find 5 finalists and not drink/dance the afternoon away!!!!
Alright down to business.. Here are the 5 Finalists (in no particular order) who’ll be donning there skills in front of you at the DIESEL Store on 2114 de la Montagne next week (July 23rd at 6pm).
One of Montreal’s finest, SPAZ has been holding it down on the ones and twos for over a decade. Known for his intense flow, SPAZ brings the noize every gig with an original blend of music and his own unique explosive style. We loved how DJ Spaz’s Stereobait Mix the mixing was seemless and his set would switch up the tempo without trying to hard. Download it here.

Nujax are Alan Brinsmead and Justin Adler. The duo can be spotted playing at their: Sex Tape Fridays Night (if you think the night is cool their flyers is beyond hysterical.. the R. Kelly, Geordi Laforge and Zoolander Flyer Genius!!!) at Blue Dog where everyone from A-Rock to Figure8 have donned there skills on the decks. It wasn’t hard to get into they’re self-described style; Emotronic / Hyphy / Techno mix . Download their mix here.
Mathieu Caya
Mathieu Caya is an up coming DJ in Montreal you can usually catch him playing at Saphir every Thrusday on the Second Floor. He’s also a promoter for KnightRiders! and founder of rooftopfistfights. We were pretty blown when he dropped his mix and threw in an 80’s gem (we don’t want to ruin by telling you what it is) and The Presets is always welcomed in any mix. Check out the: Just My Bill Mix here.
And you thought so far it was going to be an all boys club!!! F**k dat… Mayday came in and didn’t waste time with the intro taking us of the Chemical Brothers Mixtape: Brothers Gonna Work it Out. Seems like Mayday has a pretty busy schedule these days from doing the Picknik Electronik, Peer Pressure’s Block Party, DJ’ing with Mary Hell.. lets just say we have a hard time keeping up (just like our feet did with this mix). Download the very distinctive Breakdown on the Paradise Boulevard Mixtape here.

It’s not hard to miss Axel Klien whether it’s playing at Balroom or at Circus afterhours. His Je Suis un Regal mix will take you on a electro journey.. we litereally felt like we did a whole nights worth of partying (afterhours included) in this 35 min mix.. just when the mix was getting really hard Axel switchs gears and had has us grinning right until the end. Download the mix here.
Thank you again for all of those who entered. We did have a lot of good submissions and its extremely hard narrowing it down to just 5. Again you can see all the finalist battle it out for the infamous 30 min spot on the MEG Boat next Thursday at the DIESEL Store. So get busy downloading and show your favorite DJ your support!!
Chivers!!!
