Finally Jay-Z’s first track on the much anticipated: The Blueprint 3 (out on September 11th.. 8 years since the original Blueprint album) gets a video treatment. I have to agree their is way too much crap filling the airwaves with empty lyrics and using autotune to sell tracks, ringtones, etc. But on the flip side you have a whole industry of commercial rap that was stagnant and not evolving. It seems like using autotune should have been used 6 years ago in rap but it’s only in the last little while we’ve been hearing it more and more. At first I have to admit it was exciting to hear but like most things in commercial rap it hasn’t evolved into anything more (the only exception to this has been Kanye West [and a couple of others] where he took it and made something incredible with 808’s and Heartache).
All that being said I’m hoping autotune (and now death of it) will make a lot commercial rappers look to acts like The Cool Kids, Diplo, Toddla T (to name just a few) and progress their style to a whole new era.
Chivers!
