For culture junkies, history buffs, cigar smokers and rum aficionados, Havana is a one-of-a-kind destination that seems almost frozen in time. But, for one weekend this summer, Montreal residents can again experience the unmistakable vibe and contagious spirit of Havana without having to leave their own city.
Those heading to regular hangouts in the Plateau August 11 to 13 should expect to hear the sounds of Havana Cultura — authentic Cuban jazz, salsa and rumba, Afro-Cuban soul and reggaeton — flowing into the street from many of the top establishments that have made the Plateau one of the trendiest neighbouhoods in town. While there, revellers can check out contemporary Cuban art, incredible photography, Afro-Cuban dancing as well as enjoy tasty Havana Club cocktails and Cuban-inspired food at some of the best bars and restaurants in the area. And if they’d like to smoke a hand-rolled cigar, they can do that, too.

Over three days, the Plateau will be transformed into a little Havana, brought to life by visiting artists and musicians as well as Cuban expats living in Montreal. Participating venues in the Mont-Royal and Papineau area will host unique, Cuban-themed activities. The festival is once again headlined by Gilles Peterson!!! (yes the very same of BBC Radio 1’s show: Worldwide), who returns to Montreal on Aug. 11 at La Tulipe. Peterson will be joined by 11-piece band, The Cuban Martinez Show, as well as local musicians, drummers and dancers to kick off the festival in style. Keep posted to our Facebook Fanpage as we will be giving away 2 tickets to expereince this amazing night.
